Promesa's First Town Hall Meeting A Success!
On April 24th, 2018, Inner City Struggle, Proyecto Pastoral, Promesa Boyle Heights, and BSELA parent leaders organized a Town Hall Meeting titled An Eastside Movement: Preparing our Babies for a Path to Success. The focus of this event spotlighted the critical need for investments in Early Education resources, and highlighted timely opportunities for investment.
Over 150 East L.A. and Boyle Heights residents, parents, children, and community members attentively listened, and engaged in asking questions regarding the critical need for investments in early education infrastructure and programs to ensure that these are included at both the county, and city level.
Panel speakers Karla Pleitez Howel (from the Advancement Project), Rafael Gonzales (from First 5 L.A) and Elizabeth Quiros (East L.A parent leader) advocated for the need and importance of early education, investments in parks and open spaces (Measure A), and the Cannabis Revenue/Community Reinvestment Fund (with use of Prop 64 funds) to support programming beginning with our earliest learners.
L.A. City Council Member Jose Huizar also made a special appearance presenting his Youth Task Force motion, the critical importance of Early Youth Education and the City of L.Aās need to identify funding sources for it.
We are committed to engaging residents, parents, and community members to be informed advocates on upcoming opportunities and policies that will direct millions of public dollars to communities across the state and county.
