Welcome to College & Career!
Promesa's College & Career work extends across our three community schools: Hollenbeck Middle School, Mendez High School, and Roosevelt High School. With the collaboration of our Community School Coordinators, school administrators and college counselors, community partners, and local colleges, the College & Career team supports college-going events and activities to foster college-readiness in all students.

The College & Career work includes participating in school-led college application and FAFSA/DACA workshops, coordinating College Fairs and Career Days, facilitating college-readiness workshops to parents and students, organizing field trips to local colleges, and supporting first-year college students through our transition program Boyle Heights Avanza.
​
Current college students are offered fellowships to support the College & Career work through our College & Career Ambassador Fellowship. Ambassadors are essential to the College & Career work by how they assist the development of the Boyle Heights Avanza program and mentorship component.

Consider joining our Avanza scholars cohort to have unlimited access to first-year mentors from your campus, monthly newsletters filled with campus and academic information and updates, and workshops tailored to meet your needs and areas of support!

If you're a prospective ELAC or Cal State LA student, sign up to be a part of our program.

Summer 2020: Avanza's newsletter shared with Avanza scholars.
Newsletters are shared on a monthly basis with important school events, updates, and resources. The College & Career Ambassadors develop content for each of their campus.
Career Day 2020 e-Zine
Due to the COVID-19 shelter in place orders, a number of schoolwide events were canceled. This meant that our three community schools would be left without Career Days and College & Career Weeks. With the alignment of our creative energies, we moved forward with delivering our objectives to our students in a safe and virtual manner.

Transition to College Parent Presentations
Promesa Boyle Heights collaborated with the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools to present parents across our three community schools, as well as additional Partnership schools, some insight into how to prepare themselves for their children's college transition. Our presentations featured an added collaboration with College Track and featured current-college students and recent graduates to share further perspective on how to best support college students.
